New Year Mast Run
33 runners took part on what was I believe the 50th anniversary run. One of the runners, Mike Stubbs had run the very first New Year Run. The group was made up of Harriers and Parkrunners. It was great to see so many familiar faces and wish each other a Happy New Year. We set off from the Jacobite Cruises car park at 12 noon and made our way down the canal tow path to Dosser’s Brae following the traditional route with Billy Skinner as our guide (being one of the older members of Harriers.) After a circuitous route we reached the Mast where Billy had organised Wendy and Ciaran to meet us with a welcome drink of sparkling wine. Toasts to the New Year were made with various other alcoholic beverages and Marion Nicholson’s home made tablet restored our energy after the ordeal of the Zig Zags and with everyone refreshed we all set off back down the hill with Paul Crowe in the lead shouting Geronimo. An ASBO will probably be taken out by the owners of the new houses which weren’t there when the Harriers first New Years Runs took place. All in all it was a great run enjoyed by all and in very fine weather conditions.
