INVERNESS Harrier Jamie Bowie has been named as a member of a seven-man squad for the 4x400m relay at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland from 7-9th March.

This comes following three 400m indoor personal best performances in recent weeks, culminating in an individual qualifying standard of 46.58 seconds at last Saturday’s Birmingham Grand Prix.

However, the two individual places have gone to runners who have gone even faster, but Bowie’s relay place is just what he had planned for.

“I am extremely pleased to have been selected for a second world championships in just six months and this selection also means that my aims for the indoor season have been met in full,” he said.

“What I wanted to do was to reach the individual qualifying standard of 46.60, but to get a place in the relay team since realistically it looked as if there would be more athletes faster than I was, is fantastic.

“I have a lot more to try to fit into the coming months as well since after I come back from Poland I have two trips to the United States and the Commonwealth qualifying of 45.65 to try to reach.”

When he returns from Sopot he will then prepare for two trips to the United States as part of his bid to gain selection for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
