JAMIE EMERGES ON THE WORLD STAGE
Jamie Bowie has become the first Inverness Harrier to be selected for a global senior championship with the announcement that he will be in the 4 x 400m relay squad the World Championships which begin in Moscow on August 10th. This follows his fifth place in the 400m at the British Championships in Birmingham on July 14th. He will be one of seven top British 400m runners in the squad which will have to cover heats and final.
The 24 year old’s selection comes two years after his gold medal for Great Britain in the 4 x 400m relay at the European under 23 championships.
Since the end of June, Jamie has run the four fastest times of his life and reduced his personal best and Inverness Harriers club record three times from the 46.78 set in 2011 to the 46.11 sec he ran in the British final.
Despite opportunities to compete in UK league events for bigger clubs, the Inverness Royal Academy former pupil has always retained his first claim allegiance to Inverness Harriers which he joined at the age of 12 and of which he is now a life member.
Club President Keith Geddes said “all at the Club are absolutely delighted for Jamie after all the work that he has put in over the years to finally get the call to represent Great Britain at senior level and with his achievement hopefully it can inspire the younger athletes to follow in his foot steps”
